Introduction

Video settings in CS2 significantly impact both performance and competitive advantage. The goal is to maximize FPS while maintaining clear enemy visibility.

Priorities:
FPS - Target 240+ FPS for 144Hz+ monitors

Visibility - Clearly see enemies at all distances

Consistency - Stable performance without drops

Input Lag - Minimize delay between action and screen

Best Performance Settings

These settings provide the best FPS while maintaining playability:

Graphics Quality

Global Shadow Quality: Low
Biggest FPS impact

Shadows don't provide competitive advantage

Model/Texture Detail: Medium
Minimal FPS impact

Keep at medium for clarity

Shader Detail: Low
Good FPS improvement

Little visual difference

Particle Detail: Low
Helps with smoke clarity

Reduces visual clutter

Ambient Occlusion: Disabled
Free FPS boost

No competitive disadvantage

Advanced Settings

Multisampling Anti-Aliasing: None or 2x MSAA
Major FPS impact at 8x

2x is good balance

FXAA Anti-Aliasing: Disabled
Causes blur

Better to use MSAA

Texture Filtering: Bilinear
Trilinear/Anisotropic use more resources

Minimal visual difference

V-Sync: Disabled (ALWAYS)
Adds input lag

Caps FPS to monitor refresh rate

Motion Blur: Disabled
Causes visual blur during movement

No competitive player uses this

Resolution & Aspect Ratio

Native Resolution (16:9) - Recommended
Best visual quality

Widest field of view

Most popular among current pros

Examples: 1920×1080, 2560×1440

Stretched (4:3) - Personal Preference
Models appear "wider"

Reduced peripheral vision

Can feel faster due to compression

Popular resolutions: 1280×960, 1024×768

Black Bars (4:3) - Least Common
Smaller image with black bars

Similar to stretched but without scaling

Used by some old-school pros

Pro Tip: Most pros now use native 16:9. The wider FOV is valuable for spotting enemies.

NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

Optimize your GPU settings for CS2:

NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Program Settings (CS2)

Power Management: Prefer Maximum Performance

Low Latency Mode: On (reduces input lag)

Max Frame Rate: Unlimited

Texture Filtering - Quality: Performance

Threaded Optimization: On

Vertical Sync: Off

AMD Users:
Similar options available in AMD Radeon Software. Enable Anti-Lag and disable V-Sync.

Competitive Visibility Settings

Boost Player Contrast: Enabled
Makes player models stand out

Especially helpful on dark maps

Minimal performance impact

Brightness: 80-100%
Personal preference

Higher = easier to spot in dark corners

Don't go too high (washed out)

Display Mode: Fullscreen
Best performance

Lowest input lag

Fullscreen Windowed adds latency

Monitor Settings:
Refresh Rate: Highest available (144Hz/240Hz/360Hz)

Response Time: Fastest setting (1ms)

Game Mode: Enable if available
